Heavy on Fashion talks to Pretty Pear Bride ...and Giveaway

How did Pretty Pear Bride magazine come to be? Where can we pick up Pretty Pear Magazine?
After countless attempts by my wedding friends, PPB magazine came to be because I saw a void and filled it.  I knew nothing about magazines, where to start or how to make one but I knew that there was a void and I was eager and hungry to fill it.  PPB Magazines are available through our website and in salons and boutiques across the country.  Visit or website for locations, that are being updated constantly.

I love Pretty Pear Bride blog. What made you venture into the blogosphere?
I started out in the cyber world of wedding industry blogging by creating Divas and Weddings, wedding inspiration for the wedding diva.  I loved being able to share with the world my creative visions and take on weddings.  I myself being a plus size bride noticed that there were no resources, like Style Me Pretty and other wedding blogs for plus size brides so my mission was clear: merge my love for blogging and wedding planning with creating a place for plus size brides to see themselves in wedding inspiration.

What is the most important thing you learned from being the Owner and Editor of Pretty Pear Bride?
Determination!! It is not easy hearing "No" and this venture has really taught me that you have to be determined to get what you want out of life.  But good things do come to those that wait!

What advice would you give someone looking to start their own business?
Stay true to you and your vision. It's so easy to get caught up in creating something and forget what you started out to do.  Know your vision and never lose sight of it.

I see that you are a Certified Wedding Planner and Plus Size Bridal Stylist. What is the best wedding advice you can give to all those Pretty Pear Brides?
Take one thing at a time.  Yes, planning a wedding can be stressful and hard but if you take one thing at a time, it makes it so much easier.  Trust me it will save your sanity as well as everyone else around you.

From a Biology Degree to a Certified Wedding planner and stylist, that is a interesting career change. How did that come to be?
Well, I was always the cool and social science person, as they called me in college.  Everyone was always like “you are a biology person but you’re so social and fun.  So I’ve always had that planning, social vibe to me.  While in college I was in charge of the whole social/events organization on my campus so I definitely got my fix of social and planning even when I had my science side.  And when I graduated, I did the science/medical thing to pay the bills because at the time being a planner and stylist wasn't as lucrative as it is now but I always had my hand in the event planning realm.  So eventually my husband told to go out and start my own company.  So here we are.

There are many people who would like be a certified Wedding planner.
What advice would you give to them?
Experience, Experience, Experience!  Being certified is great, it looks good and will give you that advantage over other planners who are not but don't think that just because you are certified that you will automatically get clients.  You need to get the experience to go with the certification.  Do internships, volunteer, shadow other planners, the more hands on experience the better.

When I was getting married, I found it pretty hard to find a great dress. What advice would you a bride to be who is looking for the perfect dress for her special day?
Any store/brand suggestions.

"Try it on"  So often people see things on a rack and just know that it won't look good on them but how do you know.  You don't know until you try it on.  You will be amazed at how different a dress looks on you as opposed to on the rack.  I am in love with Alfred Angelo right now. They really understand the plus size bride and are making more options that compliment our bodies.  Also don't be afraid to get a dress custom made, especially to match your size.  This is a great option for that bride that has a specific vision and can't find it anyway.

What is your favorite plus size bridal designer(s) right now?
I love Alfred Angelo, White by Vera Wang and Etsy for those custom made dresses.

What advice would you give a bride planning her special day?
It's your special day so make sure and enjoy it!

Heavy on Fashion at Shecky's Girl Nights out in NYC - Fall 2011

Hey guys! As you all know, I had a chance to cover Shecky's Girls Night Out in New York City.  I am a fan of Shecky's  event but this time around I found some great fashion, a celebrity sighting, and of course some great cocktails. Here is Heavy on Fashion at Shecky's in NYC!

Vh1's Tough Love Miami @ Shecky's
Host and matchmaker Steve Ward along with fellow match maker and founder of Master Matchmaker Joann Ward (also Steve's Mom!) was at Shecky's giving out some great dating advice to all the ladies in New York!

Don't you just love this dress. Fabulous!

Here is a look at the crowd for Steve and Joann. Many ladies had some awesome question about relationships and dating. I have to say that Steve and Joann gave some grand advice.

Sidenote: I am really loving Joann's style!

When Steve took off his jacket, I knew he was  about to get down to business! He did and gave out some much needed Tough Love! Check out their site at http://www.mastermatchm…

Heavy on Fashion Goes to The Alex Soldier Showroom

Hey everyone! I had a great opportunity to visit the The Alex Soldier Showroom in New York City. I became familiar with Alex Soldier at a private showcase in New York City. When I received a email from Maria Soldier, Executive Director of the Alex Soldier Showroom, to come and check out the Alex Soldier collection in New York City. I was honored.

Alex Soldier has a vast collection of jewelry and artwork that is exceptional in craftsmanship and quality. From unique luxury jewelry with exotic diamonds and precious stone designed for the rich and famous to awards for Royalty. Alex is a creator and a example of true artistry in the world of luxury.

Here is one of my favorite piece from Alex's collection. This starfish ring is full of precious stones including diamonds. The best thing some of Alex Soldiers' pieces is that are interchangeable. Each piece has a custom key for each interchangeable piece.  They can be a ring or a pin. I believe the company is also working on making these…
