Heavy on Fashion Talks to Fashion Stylist Fatiah Rebbekkah Muhammad
Heavy on fashion: How did you begin your career as a stylist? What inspired you to become a fashion stylist?
Fatiah Rebbekkah: I always was into fashion. I was a kid who watch old Hollywood movies I
fell in love with Audrey Hepburn at a young age and I was just so into
fashion being exposed to all those beautiful woman as a young girl. My
first gig in Fashion I worked as a dresser back stage for Davids Bridal.
When doing that I was to report to the Fashion Stylist. Seeing what she
did and how she put together all the looks and I noticed she was the
vision behind all of this because of her people will be captivated and
moved to want to buy and be that bride. I knew I didn't want to design
anymore I wanted to be the visionary to bring the clothing to life.
Heavy on fashion:Who are some of the people you have worked with through out your career?
Fatiah Rebbekkah Muhammad:Wow I've been truly blessed for the public they are more excited to
here of the celebs and I've worked with quite a few but for me I feel
blessed to have learn from the teams of Nylon Bullet Magazine, Vman
Magazine Lurve the amazing famous stylist Jessica Bobince who was my
mentor so many genius photographers who help refine my eye when I style
models from Ford models from so many agencies. But for the people it
was fun to work with NFL players especially Alvin Bowen, Jackie Christie
and Laura Govan from Basketball Wives, Chef Roble from Bravo Network,
Eva Simons international pop star, Amanda Seales of MTV and Vh1 and the
list goes on and on.
Fatiah Rebbekkah Muhammad: Oh my goodness, I have a long list but I am in love with Marc Jacobs but I favor his
Men's Collection more than anything. Tory Burch is everything to me that
collection always keeps me happy and on my toes its always refreshing.
As for new designers that many people may not know of I love Empire
Mafia by Eric Juno his collection of jewelry is breathe taking and
already a celeb favorite. Also Natty paint which is now held in Urban
Outfitters.
Heavy on fashion:What advice would you give someone who wishes to pursue a career as a fashion stylist?
Fatiah Rebbekkah Muhammad: Be persistent its really hard and takes a lot of time heart and energy
and it gets really really hard so you have to stick in there and push
people and push yourself be aggressive and don't take no for an answer
ever. The sooner you start the better. Begin to build your port to show
people what you can do.
Heavy on fashion:What are the top 5 things every woman should have in their closet?
Fatiah Rebbekkah Muhammad: Well I'll say the basics and the classic pieces you can always utilize to
switch up several looks. Must have a white button up for sure this can
go for a casual look and even switch up for an interview. Always have a
basic denim something that can be worn from day to night. A basic tee of
any color can never lead you wrong. A leather or denim jacket
according to what kinda of girl you are. Always have a basic shoe
whether it is a black flat or a nude pump something that can always be
put on with anything. Now if you look at all these items you can create
at min 3 different outfits.
Heavy on fashion:What is the biggest misconception about being a fashion stylist? How will you change it?
Fatiah Rebbekkah Muhammad:Well the one thing people assume is that being a fashion stylist is easy
people assume we shop all day and do nothing else but play dress-up with
people. That pisses me off because its a lot of hard labor and long
hours. I've had male friends attempt to help me out for a day and they
are left exhausted. Its not easy so for people who think that cool out
because its hard. I would suggest people dig deeper before they make
that statement.
Heavy on fashion:Finally, Where can my fashion divas and gurus check out your work?
Fatiah Rebbekkah Muhammad:Yes! Well my website is now being updated and getting a makeover but
you can still visit it and check out some of my work and behind the scenes videos www.FatiahRebbekkah.com.Also to keep up to date with shoots and events even castings for models please visit my fanpage on facebook www.facebook.com/ fatiahrebbekkahm.Follow me on twitter @fatiahrebbekkah also follow me on instagram @missrebbekkah
