Heavy on Fashion - Black History Month Style Icon - Patrick Kelly
Hello all my fashion divas and gurus. As you all know or at least should know, it is Black History Month. So each week I will to showcase one of my favorite fashion icons. This week I will be featuring one of my favorite fashion designer Ptarick Kelly. Patrick Kelly was known for his bold and colorful style on the 1980's. Patrick Kelly Studied Art at Jackson State University (an HBCU), and later attended Parson School of Design in NYC. Patrick Started his fahsion line in 1985.
With the sponsorship from Yves Saint Laurent Chairman Pierre Bergé, Patrick started his own fashion house in Paris called Patrick Kelly Paris in 1988.
Patrick color style and bold designs were influencial on many designers in the industry today. Sadly Patrick Kelly lost his battle with AIDS and died in 1990. Though Patrick's fashion career was cut short, he was first American and the first person of color to be admitted as a member of the Chambre syndicale du prêt-à -porter des couturiers et des créateurs de mode.
Patrick fashion sense and fresh approach to style is so influential, many museums throughout the United states have showcased his collections and innovative designs.
This is why Patrick Kelly is my fashion icon this week in honor of Black history month.
